Since 1988, Robin Hood has been working to elevate low-income New Yorkers from poverty. Today, Robin Hood is New York City's largest poverty fighting philanthropy. Last year, Robin Hood awarded $172 million in grants, filling a critical void during the COVID-19 crisis by providing direct cash assistance, meals, housing, healthcare, education, and other urgent needs to more than one million New Yorkers in need.
The pandemic makes our work more consequential than ever before. Poverty in NYC is on the rise. The city's unemployment rate exceeds the national average. And nearly half a million New York City school children are performing below grade level. Millions of New Yorkers still cannot afford to pay rent or put food on the table.
Working with 300 community partners across all five boroughs, we are focused on New York's next comeback, and you can help. By adopting a family this holiday season, you can help a neighboring family get back on their feet. Give the gift of joy for the season and the warmth of a supportive neighbor. Because our Board of Directors covers 100% of our overhead, every dollar you contribute goes directly to New Yorkers in need.
