Backpack Challenge 2017

Ended August 12, 2017

The Backpack Challenge raises funds and collects essential back to school items for foster care youth in Philadelphia. From its humble beginnings, the Backpack Challenge has grown from a small collection drive to a national program due to the strong partnership between the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, Five Below, iHeartRadio, and Valley Youth House.

The Backpack Challenge gives youth in foster care the tools needed to pursue and achieve their educational goals through the support of their own communities. Since 2011, the Backpack Challenge has collected over 50,000 backpacks and raised $87,000.

In 2016, we partnered with Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Delaware, Detroit, Houston, Nashville, Raleigh, and Washington, D.C. We hope to expand even more this summer!

This year, our goal is to distribute 4,000 stuffed backpacks and collect $30,000 in Philadelphia alone. Help us to meet our goal by donating school supplies today!
